Ingredients

– Packaged pie crust – Strawberry or cherry jam – Egg – Confectioners sugar – Heavy cream

Step 1

Preheat oven to 400º Fahrenheit. Unroll pie crusts and smooth until flattened. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2

Roll out the pie crust and use a heart shaped cookie cutter to stamp out heart shapes. Place jam in the middle of half of the pastries.

Step 3

Use a fork to poke venting holes in the center of the other half of the pastries. Using a pastry brush, brush water around the edges of each pastry.

Step 4

Gently place the top pastries on the bottom pastries, aligning them. Lightly brush egg wash over each of the heart shaped desserts.

Step 5

Bake at 400º Fahrenheit for 15 minutes, or until golden. Let cool on a wire rack for 15 minutes before frosting.

Step 6

Make the icing by combining the confectioners sugar and heavy cream. Add 1 drop of food coloring to tint the frosting. Frost or drizzle over pastries before serving.

Hand pies will keep well for up to 2 days on the counter at room temperature in an airtight container.
