Instructions
Thaw frozen dough
Let dough thaw overnight in the refrigerator (see here for other ways to thaw frozen dough). Once thawed, cover it with oiled plastic wrap and let it rest at room temperature for 30 minutes to 90 minutes before shaping pizzas.
Shape and stretch the dough.
Preheat the oven to 450ºF.
Combine three rolls to create each of the mini pizza dough balls. You should be left with four larger dough balls. Shape each into a ball. If they stick you may need to lightly flour your countertop or dampen your hands. It is best to stretch the dough by placing your hands under the dough and by using the back of your hands, gently pull outwards.
When the crust is about 5 inches round, transfer it to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Make the Halloween themed pizza of your choice, ingredients listed are for 2 skull and 2 spider pizzas.
Bake it at 450º F for 7-9 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and the edges of the crust are golden. Let them cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
For provolone cheese I suggest using the deli counter and asking them to slice the cheese thick.Recipe Variations:
Colorful skull pizza: Transform your skull pizza with colorful bell peppers instead of traditional toppings. Use orange or red bell peppers cut into strips for the teeth, yellow pepper pieces for the eye sockets, and a green pepper stem at the top to create a pumpkin-skull hybrid that's both creative and delicious.
Spooky shapes: Use a cookie cutter to cut shapes out of slices of cheese- we recommend bat, cat, pumpkin or ghost shapes. Use peppercorns for the eyes.
Recipe Tips:
Let your thawed Bridgford dough rest at room temperature for 30-90 minutes before shaping. This makes the dough much easier to stretch and prevents it from snapping back, giving you perfectly shaped mini pizza crusts every time.
Apply a thin, even layer of pizza sauce on your Bridgford crust. Too much sauce can make toppings slide around and create a soggy crust. A light coating ensures your spooky designs stay in place while baking.
Storing and Make Ahead Instructions:
Cooled leftover pizza will keep in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days when stored in an airtight container. For best results, reheat in a 350°F oven for 5-7 minutes to restore the crispy crust texture.
You can prepare the pizza dough and cut your toppings in advance, but it's best to assemble and bake the pizza for Halloween just before serving for optimal taste and texture. The unbaked assembled pizzas can sit for about 30 minutes before baking if needed.
